RESUMO

Virtual education has evolved significantly, driven by the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) resources, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Health Sciences, with their practical components, present unique challenges in virtual education, including maintaining student engagement. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the flipped learning methodology with and without in-class content reinforcement in a virtual classroom for previously assimilated materials within Health Sciences. The study involved students in a Kinesiology program using the Blackboard Learn platform. Two groups were established: one completing a questionnaire at the beginning of the virtual class (FLI group) and the other at the end following a content reinforcement session (FLI+TRA group). While no statistically significant score differences were found between the two groups, the FLI+TRA group showed higher pass rates and improved average scores, indicating practical benefits. These results suggest that combining flipped learning with traditional in-class instruction can enhance content assimilation in virtual education, fostering increased student engagement and participation. However, further research is needed to explore the full implications and adaptability of this approach. In conclusion, this study highlights the potential of the FLI+TRA approach to improve learning outcomes in complex subjects like Epistemology and Research Methodology within Health Sciences. As virtual education continues to evolve, educators should consider this hybrid teaching model as a valuable tool to provide a more holistic and effective learning experience (AU)

(AU)

Orgasm is the peak of sexual excitement, when not commonly experienced, it is called anorgasmia, second most frequent sexual complaint among women. Physiotherapy is a resource that aims to improve the quality of life of anorgasmics women through prevention, function repair and pain management. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effects of kinesiotherapy techniques applied on the pelvic floor muscles, associated with perineal massage and the participants' sexual awareness. The methods used were sexual education, perineal massage, kinesiotherapy associated with the use of the New PelviFit Trainer urogynecological probe, as a visual feedback, to promove awearness and estimate its effects on the pelvic floor muscles condition in women reporting anorgasmia. The result obtained with the protocol of association of therapeutic techniques in women with orgasmic dysfunction showed improvement in the female sexual function, assessed by the Female Sexual Function Index questionnaire, increased strength and pelvic floor muscles relaxation, quantified using the Modified Oxford scale and the vaginal flexibility assessment scale, respectively. As a conclusion, the application of physiotherapeutic techniques combined with humanized treatment, with a focus on awareness of women, body self-perception and maintenance of sexual function, promoted improvement of orgasmic sexual dysfunction.

SUMMARY: The nuances that the term Kinesiology has generated in disciplinary development have upheld a significant number of professional actions, ranging from physical education to laboratory research, kinetics, sport kinematics and ventilator function. Such actions have ultimately assisted in the extreme dysfunction and immobility concomitant at the end of a vast majority of diseases. Therefore, Kinesiology has been the argumentative support for teachers, coaches, scientists and therapists working with human movement. Humanities and social sciences that commence with anthropology and are consolidated in the bio politics of global union organizations to establish control guidelines are also an important contribution to its study. Given the vast amount of knowledge in this field, there is an opportunity to generate favorable conditions that reflect on further solutions inspired by the transcendence of functionality and movement. When reflecting on these achievements, the common denominator is when functionality becomes the epistemological goal ofthe paradigms at the service of human movement. In this context, the objective of this research was to analyze the term Kinesiology in the context of disciplinary nuances to recompose its implications and to determine if it can survive as a discipline.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Clinical reasoning (CR) is a training mainstay in health care careers. AIM: To describe the perception of students and teachers about the development of clinical CR in Kinesiology and Dentistry careers. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Exploratory descriptive qualitative study, with 12 informants (six teachers and six students), applying a script of questions through a semi-structured interview. A thematic inductive data analysis was carried out. RESULTS: Two hundred thirty-five meaning units, 38 codes, seven subcategories and three categories were collected. CR was reported as a basic analysis process in health care training. Its necessary elements are knowledge, a learning environment and a facilitator teacher, among others. Motivation, analysis models, variability and exposure are reported as facilitating factors for the development of CR. Teacher paternalism, resistance to change and few learning opportunities are presented as obstacles. Active strategies such as clinical cases, simulation and clinical practice are perceived as facilitators for the development of CR. Those situations where the student does not assume a leading role such as lectures and activities in large groups, are considered as obstacles. CONCLUSIONS: Both students and teachers point to CR as an analysis process that is indispensable in both careers. Exposure to variable educational experiences through active educational strategies in small groups encourages CR.

RESUMO

Each year 65% of young athletes and 25% of physically active adults suffer from at least one musculoskeletal injury that prevents them from continuing with physical activity, negatively influencing their physical and mental well-being. The treatment of musculoskeletal injuries with the adhesive elastic kinesiology tape (KT) decreases the recovery time. Patients can thus recommence physical exercise earlier. Here, a novel KT based on auxetic structures is proposed to simplify the application procedure and allow personalization. This novel KT exploits the form-fitting property of auxetics as well as their ability to simultaneously expand in two perpendicular directions when stretched. The auxetic contribution is tuned by optimizing the structure design using analytical equations and experimental measurements. A reentrant honeycomb topology is selected to demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach. Prototypes of auxetic KT to treat general elbow pains and muscle tenseness in the forearm are developed.

Clinical Reasoning is a fundamental process to identify deficits in a patient and state a diagnosis. The goal of this study is to describe part of the methodology and its results, within the framework of the Clinical Reasoning course of the Kinesiology career at Finis Terrae University, implemented to improve the process of formulating initial hypotheses for kinesiological evaluation. MATERIALS AND METHODS The students were evaluated according to the quantity, coherence and syntax of these initial hypotheses, in addition to the domains to which they belonged, at the beginning and at the end of the intervention that consisted of 3 activities (2 face-to-face classes and an activity report). The face-to-face classes had as topics the International Classification of Functioning, Health and Disease (ICF), WHO, and its role in diagnostic clinical reasoning; and the importance of initial hypotheses within the hypothetical deductive model of reasoning and how to write them, together with the use of a tool (a "Modified Hippocratic Table") to methodize the formulation of initial hypotheses regarding deficits in body structures. The report integrated all of the above during the evaluation of a real patient. RESULTS The final evaluation showed a significant increase in the quantity (mean ± initial SD 10.1±8.57, final 27±9.23, p < 0.001) of hypotheses raised and in their consistency to the available information. Conclusion: The Systematization described for formulating diagnostic hypotheses in kinesiology students results in a greater quantity and quality of their hypotheses, validating this methodology for the initial teaching of diagnostic clinical reasoning in kinesiology.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the use of applied kinesiology in the field of dentistry. METHODS: A review of the literature was carried out looking for all articles written on the topic. PubMed, Ovid Medline, and The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) databases were searched. RESULTS: Only one study was retrieved on the use of applied kinesiology in temporomandibular disorder patients, and only one study was published on dental material testing. A change in muscle strength associated with changes in dental occlusion has been observed in many of the articles selected. DISCUSSION: The use of applied kinesiology for the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies in the field of dentistry is not supported by scientific evidence. However, a relationship between dental occlusion or maxillo-mandibular relationship and isometric muscle strength has been noted.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT This study aimed to group some perspectives on Go Tani's epistemological activity in the context of Brazilian Physical Education (PE), establishing his contributions and reflections on Kinesiology for the structuring of undergraduate and graduate Physical Education in Brazil. This is a bibliographical and exploratory study, which prioritized Tani's production on the most varied platforms and the materials that circulated about Kinesiology in national and international literature. Finally, through the theoretical review, it was possible to identify that the PE field is a scenario full of disputes and that even with the transformations of paradigms that infer the legitimate alternatives in the scientific context, the relationships that are established between the different schools of PE thought have erupted in a process of mutual incomprehension that contributes to the circularity of perspectives and the maintenance of beliefs in the field.

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of hyper pronated foot on postural control and ankle muscle activity during running and cutting movement (v-cut).Methods: In this Cross-Sectional study, 42 young physically active (exercising three times per week regularly) males participated in this study, including 21 with hyper-pronated feet and 21 with normal feet. Each participant completed a running and cutting task. Body postural control was measured using a force platform (1000Hz) which was synchronized with surface electromyography of selected ankle muscles. MATLAB software was used to process and analyze the data. One-away ANOVA was used to identify any differences between groups. Results: Differing muscle activation patterns in the surrounding ankle musculature (tibialis anterior, peroneus longus) through to reduced postural stability in the medial-lateral direction and increased vertical ground reaction forces were observed between groups. Conclusion: According to the obtained results it seems that subtalar hyper-pronation can be regarded as a factor affecting the biomechanics of cutting by changing activation patterns of the muscles surrounding the ankle, and reducing postural control of the body in medial-lateral direction, but not in anterior-posterior direction. (AU)

(AU)

Telerehabilitation has been a fast and effective solution in patient care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our aim was to describe the experience of families of children with complex chronic conditions (CCC) treated through telerehabilitation during the pandemic. Materials and methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, online survey study was conducted. Families of children (1 month to 5 years of age) with at least one CCC who received interdisciplinary remote follow-up during the pandemic from two or more rehabilitation areas (physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy) belonging to the Department of Physical Therapy of Hospital de Pediatría Juan P Garrahan, from March to October 2020, were surveyed. Results: 88.3% of the participants (n=43) expressed satisfaction with the telerehabilitation modality. Among the facilitators selected by the participants, the following were mentioned: time saving, greater frequency of consultations, reduction of travel expenses and greater comfort, while among the barriers, the following stood out: no connection with the professionals, longer treatment times, connectivity problems. Statistical analysis did not show significant differences between those who reported being more satisfied according to socioeconomic level (high or low), availability of their own wifi connection, or age of the child. A significant difference was found for distance to the hospital (p=0.034). Conclusion: This type of intervention provided new possibilities of care that could be considered in the future follow-up of our patients (AU)

RESUMO

Scapular dyskinesis is an abnormality in scapula static or dynamic position. There are several techniques for scapular dyskinesis conservative treatment, including Kinesio Tape application, which is used to promote and support scapula joint alignment, decrease pain and improve local muscle control. The study aim to investigate the effect of kinesio tape on scapular kinematics in subjects with scapular dyskinesis. Fourteen subjects with scapular dyskinesis performed flexion and scaption movements in two conditions: (1) without load and (2) holding a dumbbell. A scapular tape was applied over the lower trapezius (Y shaped) muscle with a 20% tension. Kinematic data were captured with 10 infrared cameras and analyzed based on Euler angles, peak values of upward rotation, internal rotation, and posterior tilt angles. To compare the situations with and without kinesio tape the repeated measures two-way ANOVAs (α = 0.05) was performed using SPSS software. Scapular tape increase upward rotation and posterior tilt during flexion of the shoulder. No interaction (Load x KT) was found during flexion, suggesting that KT effect in the peak values is the same, regardless the load condition. Scapular tape decreases internal rotation during scaption and a significant interaction was found between load x KT, suggesting the effect of using KT could depend the load u sed during this movement. The results suggest that kinesio tape may can be use as assistant to increase upward rotation, posterior tilt and decrease internal rotation in scapular dyskinesis subjects. (AU)

The rehabilitation of a fractured patient is progressive and sequential for the improvement of the fracture focus, especially in this type of fractures with loss of bone substance since they are usually aggressive and difficult to resolve, so orthopedic treatment is careful and complex. as the recovery is prolonged subject to several steps depending on the patient's progression. The objective of this article is to describe the sequence of steps in the rehabilitation of this type of fractures, since there is no clear manual for the management in rehabilitation of similar cases. The follow-up and recovery of this case lasts 8 months divided into 3 stages of rehabilitation in a total of 122 sessions, having 4 evaluations based on the three parameters of admission assessment: pain, movement, posture and muscular strength, progressively improving these aspects.

RESUMO

Osteoporosis is a metabolic disease of the skeletal system which currently affects over 200 million patients worldwide. The WHO criteria define osteoporosis as low bone mineral density, with a T-score ≤ -2.5 found in the spine, the neck of the femur, or during a full hip examination. Osteoporosis considerably reduces a patient's quality of life. QoL should be carefully evaluated before fractures occur to enable the development of an appropriate treatment plan. The progression of osteoporosis may be significantly inhibited by following a proper diet, leading a healthy lifestyle, taking dietary supplements, and receiving appropriate treatment. Education and the prevention of the disease play a major role. Potentially modifiable risk factors for osteoporosis are vitamin D deficiency, smoking, alcohol consumption, low calcium intake, low or excessive phosphorus intake, protein deficiency or a high-protein diet, excessive consumption of coffee, a sedentary lifestyle or lack of mobility, and insufficient exposure to the sun. Pharmaceutical treatment for osteoporosis involves bisphosphonates, calcium and vitamin D3, denosumab, teriparatide, raloxifene, and strontium ranelate. Data indicates that 30%-50% of patients do not take their medication correctly. Other methods of treatment include exercise, kinesitherapy, treatment at a health resort, physical therapy, and diet.

INTRODUCTION: Home hospitalization was created with the aim of being an alternative to traditional hospitalization, similar in resources and complexity. Among the attentions that can be delivered, is kinesiology. However, there is no specific information on the profile or work of these professionals in these units. Therefore, this work seeks to describe and characterize the work of kinesiologists who work in home hospitalization units in public hospitals in Chile. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Cross-sectional descriptive study carried out by means of a survey of kinesiologists who work in home hospitalization units in public hospitals in Chile between March and August 2019. The Rstudio software was used for the statistical analysis. RESULTS: Of 82 hospitals surveyed, 59 have home hospitalization, of these, 45 have kinesiology. Among the most developed areas in adults are respiratory kinesiology (95.3%), motor kinesiology (93.4%), and neurorehabilitation (90.1%). In pediatrics it is respiratory kinesiology (28.1%). 32% of the units have a coordinator by profession kinesiologist. CONCLUSIONS: Kinesiology allows delivering different benefits at home to both adults and children. However, this arises according to the need of each hospital and is not defined at the national level, so it is proposed to move towards guidelines that allow the standardization of the incorporation of this profession to all home hospitalization units

The learning strategies explain the course and organization of thought, highlighting three key moments on their use: before, where the conditions for learning occurs are included; during, where the processes are carried out; and later, presenting the results of this sequence. To determine which are the strategies used for first-year Kinesiology students, the abbreviated ACRA instrument was applied to 75 students, which consists of a self-administrated questionnaire of 44 Likert Scale questions, and to know the strategies that teachers need that students have, a structured survey validated by expert's judgment was carried out to 5 teachers in charge of a course. The results in the students highlight that coding is the process that presents the greatest weakness and, in the teachers, although students are required to have certain strategies, the teachers declare that they do not know how to teach those. This contributes to the persistence of the gap that students bring from high school in coding strategies and shows the need for training in pedagogical tools for university teachers.

RESUMO

The conceptual physical education (CPE) innovation began in the mid-20th century as an alternative approach to college-level, activity-only basic instruction classes. In addition to physical activity sessions, CPE courses (classes) use text material and classroom sessions to teach kinesiology concepts and principles of health-related fitness and health-enhancing physical activity. CPE courses are now offered in nearly all college programs as either required or electives classes. Two decades later, the high school CPE innovation began, and Kindergarten-8 programs followed. In this commentary, I argue that historian Roberta Park was correct in her assessment that physical education has the potential to be the renaissance field of the 21st century. Scientific contributions of researchers in kinesiology will lead the way, but science-based CPE and companion fitness education programs that align with physical education content standards and fitness education benchmarks will play a significant role. CPE courses have been shown to be effective in promoting knowledge, attitudes, and out-of-school physical activity and have the potential to elevate physical education as we chart the course of our future.
